Okay, after reading the Wireless hookup post, I thought I'd present my computer troubles for your perusal...as of about 4 days ago, all 3 computers in the house, (2 wireless laptops and one wired desktop all thru a netgear router) stopped loading secure webpages! I can get to the sign-in page on most sites, but after the password's in...nothing. Thankfully this forum still comes up for me! Strangely, so does my banking site...I've deleted temps, cookies, cache, and even restored the system back to a week ago with no effect! I've scanned for adware, viruses, and the like...nothing! I called Dell support...all thru the recordings, service tag, etc...then they say, "technical difficulties, try your call later", and HANG UP! Well, all this to say, "HEP ME, HEP ME"!

Larry, what are the settings on your router? It sounds like that is the point of failure, not your computers. Try hooking one computer up to just the modem (bypass the router) and see what happens.

Joe, that did it! Now, the only question is what is up with the router...man, this wireless router thing isn't everything I dreamed...it took me an hour and a half with a support girl in India (the language barrier and my lack of understanding of the subject....nice...) to even get hooked up, and now this! Any ideas? And thanks for getting me this far!

As others have said, since everything works without the router it sounds like that's your problem. Since you are connecting straight to the modem please be sure to have a software firewall running. Please. Windows XP with service pack 2 has firewall software built in. If you're not using XP SP2, then I would suggest something like Zone Alarm (I believe it's still free). A windows computer connected straight to the internet via cable modem can be infected in about 4 minutes unless protected by some sort of firewall.

Hey guys..wow! thanks for the response so quickly! Nathan, I am using sp2 with xp...hesh, the router had to be configured with manual ip addresses...(see call to India... )...I'm afraid to re-set it to factory defaults in fear of having to call them again! I didn't see anything blocked in the way of sites when I logged into the router, but I may not know what to be looking for! I will unplug and re-power everything tho and see how that works...stay tuned!

Yep, when I tried to log in thru the router after unplugging, no dice...I guess it's India...
